Remarks

Serial number 23019  Contax D - C1953. 35mm SLR. Standard PC sync on top. Zeiss Jena Biotar f2, or Hexar or Tessar f2.8 lens. Focal-plane shutter to 1000. Four or five variations. Last version has auto diaphragm like Contax F, but is not marked F.
Contax E - c1955. Like the Contax D, but with uncoupled selenium meter built onto prism.
Contax F - c1957. Same as Contax D, but with semi-automatic cocking diaphragm.
Contax FB - Built-in selenium light meter. Zeiss Biotar f2/58mm lens. Focal-plane shutter 1-1000.
Contax FM - c1957. With Zeiss Biotar f2-58mm. Automatic diaphragm. Interchangeable finder screen.
Contax S -1949-51. The first 35mm prism SLR, along with the Rectaflex. Both were exhibited in 1948 and produced from 1949. The Contax patent date is first, however. Identifiable by sync connection in tripod socket. Biotar f2 lens. Focal-plane shutter 1-1000, B. Early models have no self-timer. Intermediate models have a visible plug over the site where the self-timer is subsequently mounted. Later models have a self-timer with lever below shutter release. Early models are well-finished with typical Zeiss quality..
